Legend has it that Lord Varaha, in his divine form, protected the land from floods, causing tears of joy to flow and giving birth to the Nethravathi River. It is also worth mentioning that the famous Bandaje Falls, found on the Bandaje and Ballalarayana Durga trek, is formed by one of the Nethravathi River's tributaries.
